A report summarising the results of the Expert Forums held as part of WP2 has been published on the SILWERS project website. The document is now available in five languages: English, Polish, Greek, Czech and Icelandic, to make the findings more accessible to all stakeholders in the partner countries.
The report presents the perspective of IT and cybersecurity specialists on the key challenges faced by people aged 55 and over in the digital environment, and identifies the most significant areas of risk associated with the development of AI. Among the most frequently discussed threats are phishing, scams using deepfakes and voice cloning, fake online shops, emotional manipulation and social engineering, identity theft, malware/ransomware, and mass-personalised attacks supported by AI. Experts emphasise that effective protection for older people requires a combination of education based on practical examples and the development of safety habits (verifying information, exercising caution with urgent requests, and protecting data and accounts).
The report also describes the areas in which AI can realistically support day-to-day life (e.g. health, communication, digital services), and identifies the skills critical to increasing older people’s digital resilience. Another key element of the publication is the glossary ‘Online threats for 55+’, which clarifies the terminology and facilitates a consistent understanding of the threats for both educators and older people.
